Running Letters Blinkie

Disclaimer: This tut will definitely work better and easier with some letters than others and with some fonts than others. The basis of this tutorial is converting fonts to vector paths. The vector "paths" of fonts can be a bit unpredictable. So, if you are having issues with your initial in one font, try it with a different one. It can be done with almost any letter in almost any font, but it will take more tweaking. Or just use a star - that will work with any name!

The image used in this tutorial is by the very talented artist, Carla Chaves. We are so grateful that she allows us to use some of her beautiful work!

This tutorial was written for PSP8. It is not written as a Beginners tut. I am assuming a working knowledge of PSP and AS and it does involve the use of vectors. But if you know most of the PSP Basics, don’t let that scare you!

For this tutorial, you will need:

Paint Shop Pro
Animation Shop
This Zip containing the Carla Chaves tube, a stars tube and a background pattern
Or a tube and background pattern of your choosing.
Porky's Font or a font of your choosing.

If you choose a different font, keep in mind that you will need a font that is fairly thick and has very smooth, clean outside lines for this tutorial. Also, note that this is just a little more difficult with the letters A B D O P Q and R, because of the center holes in the letters. It will take a few extra steps. This tutorial can also be done (and is actually a little easier) with a simple preset shape such as a star or heart. But again, it will work best with a shape that has smooth clean lines.

In PSP, Open a new 400 x 300 transparent canvas. Flood fill Raster 1 with white.

Open your Chaves tube, the background pattern and the stars. If you are using a different tube, Resize to Height = 275 pixels.  Or resize so that the tube will fit on the right side and fit nicely with your name or will look nice in front of your preset shape. Copy the tube and Paste it as a New Layer on your canvas. Scoot it to the right if you are using an Initial.
