Glow Blinkie Tutorial

Page 2

Open the supply zip and choose a template. Open it in PSP. For the purposes of this tutorial, I am going to assume you are using either rounddouble or squaredouble, but directions are basically the same for the single ones as well. Shift-D to duplicate your template. Close the original template for re-use.

Open the Jeff Lyons tube or the tube of your choice. Resize the Height to 200 pixels.

Note that anything written between *astericks* is a variation and can be skipped if you want to make your tag exactly like my sample.

For my sample, I left the borders of the template black. *Variation - If you would like to change their color, click on your flood fill tool. Set the Match Mode to RGB Value. Choose your new border color (or gradient or pattern) as your foreground color. Click once on each border. If you would like to inner bevel or texturize your borders, do it now. DO NOT add a drop shadow yet though.  You could also use a pattern, texture, or effects. Do NOT apply any distortion effects that would actually change the border shape though*

When you are finished with your borders, use your Magic Wand, with Match Mode set to RGB Value to click on the empty space outside of the borders. Selections> Invert. Selections> Modify> Contract by 1 pixel.

With the ants still marching, Click on the Fill layer in your layer palette. Use your flood fill tool to add the background color of your choice. For my sample, I used #A49C79. Deselect. *Variation - You could also use a pattern.*

*If you are using a Single border template, skip the next step and apply any brushes, textures etc. to your fill layer now.*

Click on your borders layer in the layer palette again. Use your Magic Wand tool to click between the two borders. Selections> Modify> Expand by 1 pixel.

Click on your Fill layer again. Now you can apply any effects you want, to the area between the 2 borders. In my sample, I applied the blinds effect. Effects> Texture Effects> Blinds with these settings.

*You could also apply textures, patterns or change the color. For the Vinson tag, I left it the same.*

Deselect.

*I didn’t change the center area of my fill. But you could apply brushes, textures, etc there also*

*You can add any distortion effects you might want to use (like EC3 Jiggle) on the borders now*

When you are satisfied with how your blinkie looks, add a drop shadow to your borders. I used these settings.

Copy your tube and add it as a new layer to your Blinkie Template. Drag it to the top. Move it into place and add a drop shadow with the same settings. In the layer palette, you can see that all of the blinkie layers, the border and the fill all have a #1. This allows you to move them all together. So you can scoot your template layers over and make room for your tube. *You can unlock a layer if you need to, by right-clicking on the #1.*

Click on your font tool and add your text. Move into place. I used AL Sandra, vector, 30 pts., Black background, foreground Null. *Apply any effects, like inner bevels or SBP now* I added a drop shadow with the same settings.

Add a raster layer. Drag it to the bottom and Flood Fill with white. Add your copyright information.

Now on to the blinkie part! In my sample, I used the white dots, as is. If you are satisfied with the white, then skip the next paragraph.

*If you would like to change the color of your dots – click on the Blinkie 1 layer in the layer palette. Selections> Select All. Selections> Float. Selections> Defloat. Click on your Flood Fill tool. Choose your color or gradient as your foreground color. Change your Match Mode to None. Click inside one of the dots to fill them all. Deselect. Click on Blinkie 2 layer in your layer palette and repeat the same process. Click on Blinkie 3 and do it one more time.*

We are ready to add our glow and Animate! So open Animation Shop.

BLINKIE LAYER 1

Go back to PSP and click on Blinkie 1 in your layer palette. Effects> Eye Candy 3.1> Glow. Use these settings.

*If you changed the color of your dots, then change the color in the color box to match the color you used. In the Vinson tag, the white glow did not show up against the white background. I used a lavender gray instead. You may also need to adjust the opacity for other colors. Some darker colors will need a slightly lower opacity.*

Deselect.

Edit> Copy Merged.

Go to Animation Shop. Right click and Paste as a New Animation.

BLINKIE LAYER 2

Go back to PSP. Press Ctrl-Z to Undo the Glow. Click on Blinkie 2 in your layer palette. Effects> Eye Candy 3.1> Glow. Use the same settings. Copy merged.

Back to AS. Edit> Paste> After Current Frame (or Ctrl-Shift-L)

BLINKIE LAYER 3

PSP again. Ctrl-Z to undo the Glow. Click on your Blinkie 3 layer and apply the Glow filter with the same settings. Copy Merged.

In AS, Edit> Paste> After Current Frame again.

Click on View> Animation to see how your blinkie looks.

If it is running a little too fast, press Ctrl-A to select all the frames. Then press Alt-Enter. This will bring up the Animation Properties box. Change the number in the Display Properties box to 15.

If you are satisfied, then Optimize and Save it.
