| Feathers and Fairies Tutorial

This tutorial is written for PSP8. Thanks so much to Kel at
FreePspTubes for granting written permission for me to provide
her fairy tube in this tutorial. This tube has been resized and
is for your personal use only. It is not to be shared in email
groups or added to your website for download. You will also
need the free font, Dark Horse, which is provided in the supply
zip.
Supplies
Open your fairy in PSP. Open a new canvas 400 x 400,
transparent. Copy your fairy (Edit > Copy or Ctrl-C) and paste
her as a New Layer on your canvas (Edit> Paste> Paste as New
Layer or Ctrl-L). In your Layer Palette, Right click on the new
layer and Rename it Fairy.
Click on your Text Tool. Change your foreground color to
#58212A. Change the background color to White (for the look I
used in the banner at the top of this page) or to #AE4C5E (for
the look I used on my
Tutorial Page). Using Dark
Horse at 48 pt., type your text and click OK. In your Layer
Palette, drag the text layer under the Fairy layer. Use your
Move Tool (looks like a cross) to move your fairy into position
on your text. Try to find a letter to set her on so that she
looks natural, but doesn't cover up your name.

In the Layer Palette, Right Click on the Text Layer and
Covert to Raster Layer. Effects> 3D Effects> Inner Bevel. Use
these settings.

Highlight the Fairy Layer in the Layer Palette. Use your
FreeHand Selection Tool with these settings.

Make a circle around the 2 upper feathered wings on the left
side. Go close to the fairy's body, but do not include any of
her body or hair in the selection.

Press Ctrl-C (or Edit> Copy) to copy the wings. Press Ctrl-L
(or Edit> Paste> Paste as New Layer) to paste the wings as a new
layer. Press Ctrl-D (or Selections> Select None) to Deselect
the wings.
In your layer palette, Click on the new Wings layer and drag
it below the text layer. (You may need to scoot the wings over
a little before you drag the layer down so that they won't get
lost behind your fairy.) Using your Move tool, position the
wings behind your text on the left side.

In the layer palette, Right Click on the Wings layer and
Duplicate. Use your move tool, to move the new wings to the
right - beside your first set of wings. (If you have a very
long name, you may need to Duplicate one more time and drag it
to the right - do not go all the way to the center of your name
though).
Duplicate your Wing layer again. Press Ctrl-M (or Image>
Mirror) to Mirror the wings. Now drag this set of wings into
place behind the Right edge of your name. Duplicate this layer
and drag the new wings to the left beside your last set. (If
you used 3 sets of wings on the left side, then duplicate once
more on this side also).

Now duplicate your last layer one more time. Click on the
Deform tool.

You will see a box around your last set of wings. In the
center of the box, there is a handle with a red square on the
end. If you move your cursor over the red square it turns into
2 curved arrows. When you see the arrows, click and drag the
handle up to rotate the box. The wings should be straight up.

Click on your move tool again and move the wings to the
center behind your text.
In the layer palette, turn off the Fairy layer, the Text
layer and Raster 1 by clicking on the Eye of each of those
layers. Only the wings should be showing now. Right Click on
any of the wing layers and Merge> Merge Visible.

Right click on this Merged Layer and Rename Feathers.
